Since I entered this industry in 2002, as a salesman, I have always maintained my love for this industry, because I have met numerous excellent people (including customers, carrier, colleagues and our lovely friends) through this industry! Along the way, I have kept my heart open and my mind open to learning, looking at everyone and everything around me as a mirror to look up to when I was growing up! It is these wonderful people and many unforgettable experiences and countless challenges that have made me who I am now! Although the competition in the future will be more fierce and the task will be more difficult, I feel that as long as I am willing to keep the original intention of learning, I can train myself to become a stronger and more tolerant self! Our first topic today is me and my carerer. Q: As director in charge of Document Department for so long, especially earning not much, have you ever think about transferring as a sales?
A: Frankly speaking, as a Director in charge of Document Department, leading over 80 team members, working hard everyday, but the salary is not as much as sales manager. I indeed would like to transfer as a sales. (Honestly I did try for half a year) But I still consider I am more fit for the original position, which could make show my value with more accomplishment, that could not take in return by money. Actually, money could some make yourself happier, but different people see in different way. As for me, in the position of Document Department, what is more important is that I could learn new things and make progress everyday. But for my team members, I always encourage them to transfer as sales, as they are able to make more money, but meanwhile, it will take more effort. We all have desire. The point is what you really want and what you want to pay, but if it is not fit for you, just let it go. Don’t force yourself. For now, I love my career, my daily job. Not a joke. I am very willing to be a strong backup for all our sales.
Q: Since you are doing document department as line employee, could you please share your experience leading a team for the first time?
A: Joining this family for 8 years, working from line employee, I did go through a lot, but also learn a lot. Most importantly, I am so grateful for the great encourage and leading by Ms. Niya and Mr. Feddy. And I am going to share a small story when I first acted as supervisor. At that moment, many things were new and sometimes it is hard when firstly getting a new position. Because as line employee, you just need to do your own work well, and support others when you are available. But as supervisor, besides doing your own work well, we have to build your team up wel, like a mother, always taking care of their kids, providing training to them and cultivating their abilities. Meanwhile, I also need to motivate them, communicating with them when in need and making the work more funny. What’s more, we need well-arrange the operations with others department. For example, always it happen that there are lots of own work that I have not dealt with, but I have to handle the issue for my team. If I can not figure out what is more important or less important. It would be totally a mess. Fortunately, I am still able to review all my work, if I find out somethings that are not good. I will think of it and make it better in the future.
Q: With over 80 people, even 16 supervisors, how do you manage your team? A: Team Management is a forever lesson, and I also keep learning. At present, my way is to do things in person. As we all know, parents are our first teachers. I take all my team members as my kids, deeply cultivating them in life or work. At the same time, all my supervisors are the same like me. They posit themselves as a mother. We are saying, “Taking so much care of our kids, but it is our true value to coach our kids to be stronger.”
Q: Nowadays, the market is not stable. Rumor has it that big enterprise will have interest on taking over the forwarding industry. Are you afraid that we will leave behind MRF to other forwarding company?
A: Yes, a little bit. But we are different individual, and I can not control others’ mind. Cultivating people is my duty. If there is someone left from my team, it is the turth that they are the real talent, and my method to cultivate people is worthy. Honestly I do hope all my team members could stay, since I have taken so much effort on it. Therefore, I will keep make this place “feeling more home”, at the same time, making our work more efficient. I truly believe what I am paying will always be in return.
Q: In a team, as for sales or pic, it would be a huge challenge if they could not get well along with your kids. Do you have any ways to make the relationship more enjoyable?
A: Actually, I think, it is all about communication. All of us are into a same target, providing good service to our clients. Sometimes argument could not be avoided. If we wear in others’ shoes, difficulties will always solved out. Additionally, in Document Department, we are mostly girl. As saying goes, girls made by water and very easy to get along. Try doing more communication, because sometimes what girls say is not go with their heart, right?
For our operations team, it would be much difficult. For example, shippers sometimes not provide the SI on time even after many pushes. Some of the shippers’ attitude is not good, but we can only bear it. Or sometimes, more local fee has been charge. However, fortunately, all our sales are easy-going with great understanding. So if we in times make mistakes, I hope sales or pricing team could understand us. Nobody is perfect, especially in the peak seasons, sometimes we will miss some details. But we will do our best as always.
